I created these 2 coronet boxes as Kingdom Gifts for Hanse and Olivia, I in AS 36.
The boxes themselves were wood, lined in brocade. I used tea-dyed linen as the ground for the embroidery.
I used hand-dyed silk floss for the embroidery. I used garnet, carnillion and gold beads for accent. I used chain,
satin, and french knots in the embroidery. I embroidered the slips on silk stretched over wire frames.
I used 100% cotton batting for the stuffing inside the padded slips.
The designs for both boxes included elements from multiple stumpwork pieces of the late 1500's and from paintings of the same time.
On both boxes, most of the items were three-dimensional. You could look under the Queen's skirt to see her underclothing as well
as inside the petals of the flowers. On the King's box, the hawk's wings moved and his mantle could be lifted to see underneath as well.
