Embroidered Cloud Collar

Cloud Collars were worn by nobility as decoration on both katibi-ha and
qaba-ha. The collars were either part of the garment, or detachable. The
embroidery is completed in satin stitch with silk floss. Satin stitch was
one of the many stitches used in medieval Persia. The ground fabric is hand-dyed
silk satin. I used modern dyes because of the difficulty in obtaining the
correct, period dyes as well as the toxicity of the mordants. Please see
the article on the website on embroidery for full documentation regarding
Persian embroidery.
