Scythians (7th through 2nd Cent. B.C.)

The Scythians were a nomadic people who inhabitated the northern shores of the Black Sea from about the 7th century through the 2nd century B.C. The Scythians had extensive trade routes, extending through Persia into Greece and even as far as Egypt. This area, covering the Caucasus Mountains located along the border of Russia and China, later became part of Persia proper and remained part of Persia until modern times. The nomadic tribes of this region not only shared language (North-Iranian) but alos European-type physical characteristics. The reason I began to research Scythian dress and art was that this area was the origin of the several characteristics of Persian dress. Some of this characteristics were carried through thier clothing into the Qajar period.
